For the rest of the unaffected universe, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month can be put back on the shelf to collect dust until next September. For a lot of you reading this blog, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month runs the other eleven months, too. What a sucky calendar we are dealt. It's like a Page-A-Day with nothing but Cathy comics. Ack!!
Two classrooms of children will be diagnosed with cancer today. Are you listening? It would be all over the news if two classrooms of children were held hostage by gunmen. Why doesn't anyone care that 730 classrooms of kids each year are being held hostage by cancer?
Why don't more people get pissed off that 1 in 5 of those kids will die? Great odds if you're playing the lottery; lousy odds if your kid is diagnosed with cancer.
It's never going to happen to your child...until it does.
Now come get pissed off with me and do something about it.
I've been feeling more and more the same way...most of my own family didn't know what September was...shameful. We are having our motorcycle ride for kids with cancer in October so people will keep thinking about our kids even though "our month is over"....
ReplyDeleteKeep it in people's faces and one day when you least expect it, someone with a lot of influence or money will step up to the plate and stop this madness!!! The innocent children need to be just that, innocent, and not subjected to this terrible disease!!
ReplyDeleteFeel the same fury. Almost had to leave the grocery store the other day because I was drowning in pink. It's on every bag, box, and can. Even on the produce! They even stamped the ribbons on my eggs!
ReplyDeleteAs I went to move our pile of childhood cancer tees in the closet, I decided they need to stay around. So, I'm wearing them everyday in October, too. This doesn't end for our families and so many thousands more. We must carry the torch daily until this country wakes up.
